Eagles Set to Halt Argentina's Winning Streak

Super Eagles has just 90 minutes to erase memories of the team's past failure to go past the group stage in its last two World Cup appearances-2002 and 2010- when it takes on its perennial World Cup foe, Argentina in Port Alegre, Brazil today. Today's match is the team's last group match which will determine Super Eagles chances of qualifying for the knockout stage of the tournament.

Nigeria: Borno Govt - We Have No Facts on Abduction of Women and Children

Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima said Tuesday that he was yet to get sufficient facts on the abduction of scores of women and children alleged to have been abducted a few days ago from parts of his state. The media was awash on Monday and yesterday with reports of the kidnapping of between 60 and 91 women and children from Kumugza village in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State as well as some villages in Askira/Uba Local Government Area, which shares a border with Chibok.

DRC Elections: Will Kabila stay or go? And many other questions on the road to 2016

The elections of July  and October 2006 marked the end of a particularly dramatic decade in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This included two wars (1996-1997 and 1998-2002) and a complex peace process which culminated in a transitional period with a delicate balancing act required between the different former armed groups. The elections were organised by an independent electoral commission led by the Catholic priest Apollinaire Malumalu, who represented civil society. Joseph Kabila, who succeeded his assassinated father Laurent-Désiré Kabila in January 2001, was sworn in on December 6th 2006 as the first elected President of the Third Republic. The 2006 elections were the first reasonably fair and free multiparty elections since independence.

Funding Renewable Energy in South Africa

VENTURES AFRICA – With South Africa's energy provision infrastructure under severe pressure, the government has made considerable strides towards implementing infrastructure projects, of which some are ready to supply the national energy grid – managed by ESKOM. South Africa has 18 Solar Photovoltaic Farms to produce 632MW; two concentrated Solar Plants to produce 150MW and 18 Wind Farming Plants to produce 634MW under construction around the country.

South Sudan Peace Talks Adjourned

The East African bloc mediating peace talks for South Sudan adjourned the negotiations on Monday to allow its envoys to try to get the talks back on track after the opposition refused to take part in them. During the adjournment, special envoys from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) will hold "broad consultations with South Sudanese stakeholders, the leaders of the IGAD region, the African Union the United Nations Security Council and other friends and partners of South Sudan," IGAD said in a statement.
