36 civilians 'killed' in South Sudan rebel assault
At least 36 civilians have been killed and 31 others injured in a rebel assault on Duk County in South Sudan's vast and restive Jonglei State, officials said on Monday. County Commissioner Elijah Mochnom Wuor said the victims met their fate in a fierce attack on Duk Padiet village at the end of last week. "We have now confirmed 36 people dead, 31 injured and seven missing," Mr Mochnom said. – Africa Review

Top security officers in Western Bahr el Ghazal defect to Machar rebellion
Senior security officers in South Sudan's border state of Western Bahr el Ghazal have defected to rebel forces under the leadership of former vice-president Riek Machar. The officers made the public declaration at Farajallah, an area located about 40km south-west of state capital Wau, where sources claim they announced they were leaving "the most corrupt and tyrannical regime" in South Sudan to join the "people's revolution." – Sudan Tribune

657 arrested after Eastleigh terror attack
Police have arrested 657 suspects in Eastleigh, Nairobi following Monday night terror attack that left six people dead. Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Ole Lenku said a security operation has been launched in Eastleigh and will continue until the perpetrators of the attack are brought to book. – Daily Nation

Nigeria: Sanusi Battles Terrorism Sponsorship Charges
The legal battle between the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Mallam Sanusi Lamido, and the Federal Government has taken a new twist as government says the embattled governor is being investigated for allegedly sponsoring terrorist acts perpetrated by the Boko Haram Sect. Sanusi had dragged government to a Federal High Court in Lagos challenging his suspension. – allAfrica
