Kenya trial represents a triumph for the ICC – with several caveats
Appearing in person this morning in The Hague is the sitting deputy president of a sovereign nation, and he is being made to answer for the heinous crimes of which he stands accused. This has never happened before.  It is all the more momentous because the appearance of William Ruto will, in short order, be eclipsed by that of Uhuru Kenyatta, Ruto's boss and Kenya's president. Kenyatta's trial, on separate but related charges, begins in November. Both have been charged in connection with their role in the post-election violence that whipped through Kenya in 2007/2008, leaving more than 1,000 people dead and tens of thousands displaced. – The Guardian

Central African Republic: Military Chief Removed
The president of Central African Republic has removed his military chief of staff after weekend clashes killed dozens of people and displaced tens of thousands.  A statement signed by President Michel Djotodia and read out on state radio Tuesday said Jean-Pierre Dolle-Waya would be replaced by Ferdinand Bombayake, a former national security director. - ABC News

Tanzania apprehends more than 700 illegal immigrants
Tanzanian authorities have apprehended more than 700 illegal immigrants in Kagera region in an operation launched Friday, Tanzania's Daily News reported Monday (September 9th).  The immigrants are from Kenya, Somalia, Burundi, Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. - Sabahi

Zimbabwe's Mugabe names cabinet
Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe on Tuesday unveiled the new cabinet for his new presidential term for the next five years.  The veteran leader, who has ruled Zimbabwe for 33 years since independence, named seasoned members of his Zanu-PF party to key cabinet posts. - Xinhua
