Africa Up Close

Africa Up Close is the blog of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars' Africa Up Close.
  • Contribute

Africa Up Close is the blog of the Africa Program at the Wilson Center. Africa Up Close was launched in September 2013 with the aim of providing a forum where perspectives on issues affecting Africa are developed and exchanged to promote partnership and create positive change on the continent. Each month features pieces by experts, policymakers, and practitioners working on issues affecting Africa.

Africa Up Close accepts submissions. If you have expertise on an issue and are interested in contributing a blog post about it, please email africa@wilsoncenter.org with details on your proposed piece.

What should I keep in mind while writing my post?

    • Topic: Any subject related to Africa that is relevant, of interest to you, and on which you are knowledgeable. Please provide a brief description of the topic in advance.
    • Length: 800-1,200 words.
    • Tone: Direct and conversational, while remaining accurate and professional. The tone can be more academic, if you feel more comfortable with that style, but it should be accessible to a wide audience.
    • Citations: Please link any direct quotations or data to online sources and include any other links you believe are relevant to the text.
    • Images: The Wilson Center selects royalty-free images to publish with your post. However if you have taken or have a suggestion for a royalty-free photo that is relevant to the subject, please feel free to provide it along with the name of the photographer for attribution, and we will consider using it.
    • Bio: Please include a one-sentence biographical sentenceĀ and a link to your full biography or organization.
    • Edits: We reserve the right to edit and adjust the language of your piece if necessary. Any substantial edits will be cleared with the author before posting.

For submissions and all questions, please contact Hannah BeckettĀ at africa@wilsoncenter.org.
